A place for art, inspiration, and new encounters
Dyrøya Kunstnervilla AS was founded in 2025 by Kari Nordheim and Kine Mari Bertheussen. Together, they wanted to create a vibrant and inclusive space for artists from both Norway and abroad by offering artist residencies. Our vision is for Dyrøya to become known as an "island of artists" – a place where the public can experience high-quality art from both established and emerging artists, and where the local community and the arts meet in a natural and meaningful way.
Artist Residencies and Courses
Throughout the year, we offer artist residencies where artists are given time and space to focus and explore their practice in beautiful natural surroundings. In addition, we host various courses and creative activities open to everyone – whether beginners or experienced practitioners. Participants can also book accommodation in the Kunstnervilla during their course stay. When the villa is not in use for residencies or events, it is available to rent for private stays, both short- and long-term.
Kari Nordheim
Kari Nordheim is the general manager of Dyrøya Kunstnervilla AS. She is also the artist contact for artists who have residencies with us. She can help with art-related questions, among other things. She herself works with painting, lithography, performance and video and has, through projects such as "Art in Arctic Nature", Bodø 2024, "From Nature to Nature", "Arte Innuendo", Dyrøy Culture Week and Salangen biennale21, built up a large network of contacts with artists in painting, music, film, literature and theatre. Kine Mari Bertheussen
Kine Mari Bertheussen works as a residency coordinator at Dyrøya kunstnervilla AS. She will be helpful in answering questions and planning the stay with applicants.
Kine returned to her beloved home island of Dyrøya in 2010 – a small island near the more well-known island of Senja in Northern Norway. In her daily life, she works as both a teacher and a farmer – a combination that brings balance and variety to her everyday life. Kine is a warm and grounded person with a deep love for handicrafts, traditions, and preserving what is real and close to the heart. She enjoys taking part in creative projects and thrives when she can combine practical and artistic tasks.
